The Mastiff is a giant size dog, with the characteristic physiognomy which commands respect. The head, from whatever side it is seen, shows a square appearance. The skull is wide between the ears, flat, but full of wrinkles when the dog is alert. The muzzle is short, wide under the eyes: it must appear clearly truncated and have a great depth between the tip of the nose and the lower line of the mandible. The stop sign is well marked, but not abrupt. The eyes are small, the darkest hazelnut color possible. The ears are small, thin, set high, tight against the cheeks. The body is massive, vigorous, symmetrical. The tail, hanging when the dog is at rest, is carried slightly curved when it is excited.
