The Neapolitan Mastiff is a large, molossoid dog, with a characteristic thick and wrinkled skin, covered with short hair. The head is huge and short, with a round but flattened skull between the ears, the straight muzzle, the large nose, the plentiful and drooping lips. The eyes are wide apart, the opening of the eyelids is almost round. However, the skin supporting the eyebrows being very abundant, this palpebral opening seems oval. The ears are small compared to the mass of the dog; they are triangular in shape, inserted far above the zygomatic arch. The body as a whole is longer than tall, with a massive neck and provided with baleen; the rump is broad. The tail is cut to about two thirds of its length.
