The Akbash is one of the most beautiful and oldest herding dogs. Its balanced and harmonious constitution and its dense, pure white hair make it look elegant. It is still used west of Ankara to protect herds. He is said to be the ancestor of all white herding dogs in Europe. In the United States, he is still readily employed as such. Its slender appearance hides a power which makes it a formidable guardian. His almond-shaped eyes, very sharp, are also part of his assets. The skull is broad, slightly domed, and the ears fall in a rounded V.
